MSc (Sustainable Rural Development)
Over the years, the failures of the market and the poor delivery of services by the government have been considered important for the current dismal situation of rural areas and village communities. In some cases, in the absence of appropriate solutions and approaches in addressing the issues related to basic services, semi-market solutions were attempted through the introduction of some alternatives like people’s organizations, such as NGOs, co-operatives, federations, self-help groups and so on.
The issues and problems that have emerged over the decades due to inequitable and unfair development practices have not taken away the fundamental questions of rural areas. However, of late, there has been an increasing interest among development agents and the youth at large with regard to improving the socio-economic status of the rural population taking the markets into consideration; and they have shown curiosity about the business, commerce and market in rural context.
Today under the new economic regime, the corporate houses are also required to initiate special programmes aimed at social development. The symbiotic relationship between business and society has triggered off new economic and social opportunities. There is now a pressing need to bridge the corporate sector and rural society. This is one of the market segments, which the programme intends to cater to, apart from the social development sector comprising of co-operatives, NGOs, government development agencies, and national and international donors engaged in promoting rural development.
The course will provide the blend of rural development and management with ethics, values, and the rights of the most vulnerable. The major objectives of the program will be:
To create a cadre of competent and trained management experts and development planners who can contribute to and provide alternatives to the existing set of knowledge and practices in management of rural development program, initiatives and strategic ventures.
The Program aims at,
Sensitizing students about the complexity of rural society, factors influencing rural realities, interface between various sectors and interaction between the state, market and society in production of development,

To train students in application of appropriate knowledge and technology, and develop among them a critical talent and wisdom to analyse and plan holistically and rationally with a humane approach.
The method of teaching will be highly creative and innovative in nature adopting towards seeking knowledge:

Besides, the class room teaching sessions will follow a path of logical sequence of practical knowledge seeking mode. The students will engage in a variety of modes and means of seeking information and transferring them into knowledge sets.
