Program Overview

Human Development Report- 2011 mentions that, Human Development is the expansion of the freedoms and capabilities people have to lead lives they value and have reason to value. It further says that people are both the beneficiaries and the drivers of human development as individuals and groups. To make the people beneficiaries and drivers of human development it is necessary that they are included in the process of development. It is a well accepted fact that marginalized people can play an effective role if their capacities are developed and if some innovative approaches are adopted to deal with not only employment creation but other sectors of development like health, education, environment protection and sustainable use of resources.

There is a need of a cadre of persons who will act as motivators or facilitators for the grass root people to think differently about their pressing problems, innovative ways about various social issues and take it up as a business activities or dealing with it is an entrepreneurial manner. Such people will provide some hand-holding till the rural youth themselves learn certain skills for livelihood.

India is one of the youngest nations in the world, where bulk of the working population is in younger age group of 20-35 years, suggesting potential for engaging this segment of population for economic growth and reducing disparity in income distribution.

It is estimated that India will be most populous country by 2030 with its growing population and it is also set to become the largest contributor to the global workforce. India’s working population (15-59 years) is likely to swell from 749 million to 962 million over 2010 to 2030. However, if the current trends in India’s labour participation and unemployment rate continue about 423 million in India’s working age population will be unemployed or unable to participate in the labour market by 2030 [Crisil -Skilling of India ,2010].
